Emil Milan Pop-Up Exhibition, Gallery Talk, and Book Signing

  • Moderne Gallery 111 North 3rd Street Philadelphia, PA, 19106 United States (map)

Join Craig Edelbrock, co-author of Emil Milan: Midcentury Master, for a presentation about the life and work of Emil Milan: artist, designer, and woodworker who was at the forefront of midcentury modern design. Milan's work, known as “functional sculpture,” captures and exemplifies midcentury modern design aesthetic—highlighting balance of form and function. Learn about Milan’s woodworking process, methods, and the influence he had on the craft movement in America after WWII—which still resonates to this day.

“The more technology progresses, the more the personal touch is needed.”

—Emil Milan, from a 1970s video for the Peter’s Valley School of Craft

To coincide with the talk, Moderne Gallery will have a limited-engagement pop-up exhibition of Emil Milan artwork from their collection. The exhibition will be on view for only two days so be sure to mark your calendar. The exhibition will include almost 50 artworks and most of them will be available for purchase.

The highly anticipated publication—published by The Center for Art in Wood—is the first dedicated to Milan and his artwork. This is the first time the books will be available to the public so if you didn’t get your copy during Kickstarter, this is your chance. Stop by for the gallery talk and stay to get your book signed. For more information about the publication visit Kickstarter.
